Collections and Documentation Intern

Be an integral part of the organization and execution of a comprehensive collections inventory at the Museum of Public Relations. Assist in the care, maintenance, and digitization of the collection; acquisitions; and in the preparation for exhibit installations and deinstallations.

Position Requirements

  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a graduate program in art history, museum studies, curatorial practices or a related field.

  • Ability to commit 2–3 days minimum a week.

  • Basic knowledge of current practices and innovations in museum collections management.

  • Assist with the building and organization of collection files, provenance research, and the organization of collection image files.

  • Facility with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is essential.

  • Cataloguing and database experience.

  • Knowledge of Omeka, Adobe Bridge, and Adobe Spark preferred.

  • Individual should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, must be organized, flexible, detail oriented, and able to work independently and collaboratively on multiple projects at once, and keep daily records of their progress.

  • Previous museum experience desirable.

  • You must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

  • The Museum is unable to provide or assist with visas for foreign applicants.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist in the inventory collection—collecting object information and metadata, creating hi-res scans, and updating and creating entries for the objects in the museum’s collection database and narrative for website.

  • Maintain and enhance collections records and files, both paper, electronic, and other media. This includes the reconciling of disparities between physical and electronic files.

  • Opportunity to collaborate with staff on exhibition planning, installation, and deinstallation, including the preparation of documentation for loans to other institutions.

  • Library organization and maintenance.

  • Undertake other assignments as designated by the Directors.

  • Train incoming interns with knowledge gained during your internship.
